Nanjing is called the “Humanistic and Green Metropolis ”. It has been awarded the title of “National Garden City”, “National Model Environment Protection City”, “Habitat Scroll of Honour of China” and “Winner of Special Award of UN Habitat Scroll of Honour”. It boasts 23 natural reserves, with a protected area of 749.29 sq. km, 11.38% of the city’s total area. The city has built over 30 sewage treatment plants treating sewage over 1.45 million ton a day. The city’s environment quality is getting better and better. Its Water Quality Objective of the drinking water has remained 100% for successive years, one of the best in the province and even in the whole country. The urban air keeps good quality for 88% of the time in the whole year.
