The third round of both tournaments came to an end. In the male games, the most fascinating competition was between Chinese chess player Wang Yue and Norway chess genius Carlsen who has achieved two consecutive wins.
Carlsen (black) was in a very good condition at first, and he bravely gave up his pawn at the layout stage, which is very favorable to him. However, under this pressure, Wang Yue defended his opponent well and successfully dealt with Carlsen’ disturbance with his kingside. Finally, under the time pressure with only several minutes left, Carlsen made a fatal mistake at step 40 and ended up the game in draw. Finishing the first time control smoothly, the two grandmasters didn’t give each other any opportunity to gain advantage. The game entered into opposite-colored bishops with endgame drawing. While in the rest two games, Teimour Radjabov and Dmitry Jakovenko took the lead in repeating positions three times, ending in draw. The Defending champion and player ranking first in the world, Veselin Aleksandrov Topalov took efforts to deal with the endgame with one more pawn, which left him difficult to win. While Leko kept defending calmly, not leaving any chance to Topalov. The game ended in draw.
Today, women’s games were different from those of men’s. Instead, women’s games were relatively fierce. Zhao Xue(black), the Chinese player of the highest rating, beat her teammate Shen Yang and won for the first time. Dzagnidze from Georgia who had won twice performed normally by sacrificing her queen. Finally she beat Zhu Chen. Another Chinese player Xu Yuhua(black) defeated Mkrtchyan from Armenia. Ju Wenjun(white) defeated Yildiz from Turkey , which led the third failure of Yildiz. Two draws were from the games between Fierro and Sebag , and Munguntuul and Kovanova.
