On the 60th anniversary of National Day, our grandmasters ended up the fourth round of both tournaments in this auspicious atmosphere. In the male games, Chinese top player Wang Yue (white) drew successfully with Leko, a top seed from Hungary and welcomed his fourth draw. The other two games were dramatic clashes. Between Radjabov (white) and Jakovenko, Radjabov missed a tactical portfolio bound to win and entered into an end game. With time limited, he made a fatal mistake and ended the game in draw.

Carlsen (black) with two victories and one draw in the previous three rounds had difficulty in defeating Jakovenko. In the layout stage, Carlsen arranged a strong layout by using the Najdorf system, which was not commonly used before. Carlsen continued his advantages and the situation was once very favorable to him. However, Carlsen made some mistakes. Jakovenko seized the opportunity to reverse the situation by some tough tactics. The later process was out of expectation. Jakovenko moved several question hands after going through the control of time pressure smoothly. After exchanging Queens, Carlsen gained a Pawn than Jakovenko. In the end, Carlsen didn’t leave any opportunity to Yakovenko and won the game finally.

In women’s games, Chinese chess player Xu Yuhua continued good momentum as before. She (white) defeated Fierro and won for the third time. Zhao Xue(white) easily defeated Yildiz from Turkey because Yildiz was in bad condition and Yildiz failed in four rounds since the game started. Shen Yang and Mrktchian, who both failed in the last round encountered in this round, didn’t make offense to each other. The game ended in draw. Another Chinese chess player Ju Wenjun(black) drew with Chu Chen. Sebag and Munguntuul fought with each other for about 5 hours which led to the game difficult to end. Dzagnidze who won for three times defeated Kovanova and won for the fourth time.

Tomorrow, the fifth round will be held.
