The fifth round of both tournaments came to an end. In the male games, Carlsen (white), a chess genius from Norway, easily defeated Radjabov from Azerbaijan with only 25 steps, and exceeded the rest of the players with 4.5 points in the first 5 rounds. Both sides adopted Argentine defense which they competed early this year in Linares Chess Grand Prix. Radjabov (black) changed his move at step 10 which was not approved by Carlsen. At step 15 and 16, the black side made a steep move, which was blew by the white side with a series of tactics. Black lost a piece because of the omission in step 22, and Radjabov threw in the sponge. Chinese player Wang Yue (Black) and defending champion Teimour,Radjabov met in the 5th round today. In the layout, Topalov chose to fight fiercely with a strong desire to win the game. But under great pressure, Wang Yue defended properly, blocking all the possible approaches that the opponent could attack. In step 46, without expectation to win they drew after three times repetition. Thus, Wang Yue ranked 2 with 5 draws at last. As for another game, Leko (White) drew with Jakovenko smoothly.
In women’s games, the players with more points in the previous rounds were defeated one after another. Dzagnidze (white), who won in the last four rounds, was defeated by Sebag from France. Xu Yuhua (black), who had three victories and one draw, sacrificed her pawn in French Defence and was defeated by Munguntuul from Mongolia. Mrktchian (white) defeated Zhao Xue and Zhu Chen (black) defeated Yildiz. Chinese young player Ju Wenjun failed to defeat Kavanova from Russia in the endgame with one more Pawn. Shen Yang (black) drew with Fierro after 60 steps.
Tomorrow will be a rest day. The sixth round will be held the day after tomorrow.
