Recently, the two-week Juvenile Chess Summer Camp for Nanjing Pearl Spring Chess Tournament was formally initiated. This summer camp was hosted by the organization committee of Nanjing Pearl Spring Chess Tournament and organized by Nanjing Pukou District Sports Association. This summer camp is a good opportunity for free training of the juvenile chess enthusiasts.
Chess sport plays a very good and beneficial role in cultivating and developing juveniles’ intelligence and volitional quality, and this summer camp has absorbed nearly 200 trainees with age ranging from 6 to 12 years old. The summer camp organizer has invited professional teacher of Jiangsu Chess Center to impart the rudiments of chess to the trainees. And the communication games will be played within the two weeks training course and the winners will be granted with the Promotion Certificate to be issued by Jiangsu Provincial Chess Center. Furthermore, 40 to 60 trainees will be selected and provided with the higher training course to further impart the chess tactics and skills.
Last year, when 3 schools of university, middle school and primary school had been titled with “International Chess Specialist School”, the organization committee of Nanjing Pearl Spring Chess Tournament further focused on 6-12 year-old juvenile for the promotion and provide more opportunities for them to understand the chess. The organization committee hopes to train more chess enthusiasts through the development of popularization events so as to improve the popularization rate and promote the wisdom movement to be developing in Pukou and Nanjing even in China among the juvenile population and also lay consolidated foundation for realization of the sports target: “Setting up platform for top level operation of sports and games, platform for Nanjing international image presentation, platform for East-west cultural communication”.
The juvenile chess summer camp is one of the popularization and promotion campaigns organized by the tournament organization committee. In addition, they also planned to initiate the chess tourist week, South-North students match play competition and entrepreneurs’ master contest as a series thereof. Among these competition, the South-North students match play competition will be carried out between 200 students of Peking University, Tsinghua University, People’s University of China and China Foreign Affairs University against Nanjing University, Southeast China University, Nanjing University of Technology, Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology.
Chess as a wisdom sports, has many enthusiasts all over the world, especially the elite people such as entrepreneurs and politicians are going in for this sports game and it can be deemed as the largest sport event next to soccer.
Currently, there are about 400,000,000 chess enthusiasts in the world. The people in America and Europe pay very high attention to chess popularization, especially among the juveniles. They deem the chess sports as a very important carrier to develop the youngsters’ wisdom, improve the logic speculative ability and cultivate the volitional quality. In the member countries of Grand Slam Association, such as Spain, Netherlands, the chess has become the mass popularized sports, and people love the sports very much.
According to the general secretary of organization committee for Bilbao Master Finals, the alderman of Bilbao City, Antonio: the Bilbao Master Finals will be organized by Bilbao municipal government. Through many years’ efforts the competition has exerted great influence and expulsive force on the city and the whole country of Spain. In Bilbao city, the popularity of the competition has exceeded the soccer. When the competition is going on, the government also attaches the importance to the chess popularity in the youngsters. Up to now, more than 1000 schools have set up the chess course and a very strong learning atmosphere has taken shape. The government hopes to take advantage of this opportunity to improve the children’s intellect and provide the platform for the children to master the international communication means. Not only to long for growing up future world champion of chess competition, but also to improve the cultural quality of the population and promote the collaborative development in politics and economy.

2009 Nanjing Pearl Spring Chess Tournament will be held from Sept 27, to October 9, 2009 at Pearl Spring, Pukou District, Nanjing City. Up to now, the chess players that have signed the contract are: Topalov, Bulgaria, the 1st in the world rankings, Carlson, Norway, the 3rd in the world rankings; Yakovenko, Russia, the 5th in the world ranking; Leko, Hungary, the 7th in the world ranking; Radjabov, Azerbaijan, the 8th in the world ranking, and Wang Yue, ranking in the highest among the domestic players this year.
Currently Nanjing is the only city with chess grand slam sports competition of the highest level in the country and Nanjing Pearl Spring Chess Tournament will become the top 5 in the world and first in Asia, and China only one highest chess tournament. Nowadays, the 4 grand slam sports competitions in the world are only tennis, F1, golf, and chess.
The chess grand slam competitions include Corus chess tournament in Netherlands, Linares chess tournament, Spain, M-Tel Masters Tournament in Sofia, Bulgaria, Nanjing Pear Spring Tournament and Final Chess Master Bilbao.
