400m away from the north of Tangquan Town is the famous old temple – Huiji Temple, which is now Huijisi Park. This temple underwent a period of great prosperity in late Tang Dynasty. The temple was so big that people said they should ride on a horse to reach the gate of the temple everyday when closing it. In the past, there was a millinery copper bell hanging in the temple. Every day when the monks had breakfast at dawn, the bell tolled loud and clear. So the neighboring folks would start their life and work for the day. People liked and admired the toll of this bell, thus, it was listed among the “Eight Views of Tangquan” –Morning Toll of Huiji.

There are three old ginkgoes of over 1000 years old in the temple, which are municipal cultural treasures of protection. One of them is called "Qian Nian Chui Ru (thousand-year-old aerial roots)". Around 10 aerial roots drooping from its boughs and the longest one is 2.18m. Local folks regard the tree as sacred and wrap the trees with red silk, praying for bless. With trunks growing into the midair, the 2nd trees can shade hundreds of people in the summer with their opulent leaves. The 3rd tree was planted in the Xianfeng Period of the Qing Dynasty. It once died away after lighting strike but revived again after several years, leaving the mark of lighting strike on half of the tree. If you look through the middle of the trunk, you will see a wonderful view of "A Gleam of Sky". Tradition has it that Buddha's light can be seen through the "gleam of sky" in lucky days.

All three trees bear fruits without cores, which taste sweet and savory without any bitterness. They can be used to remedy many diseases, nourish yin and strengthen yang. There was an old well dug in the Ming Dynasty. Water in the well was clear and tasty, containing microelement. Drinking the water will help to cure diseases and relieve misfortune. Local people came to draw the water and drank it every 1st and 15th day of a month. They called the water “Immortal Water”.

In 1945, Lin Sanzhi visited the Huiji Temple and wrote down Gu Yinxing Xing (Poem of the Old Ginkgo) with 512 words, which is now engraved on a stone in the park. This stele is a master piece of Lin’s works and is widely appreciated.
